Default Global Attributes, and ideas

what happened to global attributes? this is one of few mmorpgs that i have seen that threw that system away...and by global attributes i mean attributes given to ALL classes, and depending on the class you change between them to suit you best.

Strength, Dexterity, Vitality, Intelligence, Wisdom, etc. etc are a fwe examples of global attributes.

the attributes themselves effect the player as a whole not only by the weapons they can use and the skills they can use, which is what the attribute system right now is like.

Strength gives a players higher damage and the ability to carry more weight, or better equipment, but at this rate everyone can use every weapon, carry any armor and use any skill (armors only need cash and materials, then they are light as a feather and effect you in no ways except protection, the weapons you can carry and use but only become EFFECTIVE uppon the requirements, etc.)

We need to add these features into a mix of both npc trader base as well as a monster drop base.

If you are a mesmer, then strength will not effect you because your armor will not require str and your weapons wont require str right? so even letting monsters drop global armors (available to all classes, but have different requirements) then it will not over power specific classes.

The ONLY problem i can forsee with this method is how we currenty have re-destribtable attributes, and instead of having axe mastery or swordsmanship as an attribute, have it as a skill, where the farther you progress in the game the better of the same skill you can get (at the begging you can BUY swordsmanship as a passive skill that when you have it it automatically uses it, and then after you get farther in the game you can buy Swordsmanship Mk2 or Level 2, which boosts it up a bit, so forth and so on)

Rigth now Guild Wars has gone for a completely different approach on mmorpgs, the systems and gameplay are different and thus we have to adjust, but plenty of the good ideas from other mmorpgs should be implemented.

A new trade system, mroe variety in armors, weapons and items, more single-player capability, level capped, new gameplay aspects for both PvP and PvE are desperatly needed right now.

No kidding! I think that's because it isn't Everquest.

the hell? i have never played everquest so i am unsure of what your talking about, but i have seen at least 5 other mmorpgs that have global attributes. one more memerable game would be diablo 2, and one of the latest ones is Risk Your Life, yet even game like Shattered Galaxy have global attributes, and i don't see people bitching about character unbalance in there :/

but the fact that you are so closed minded is worrying, i wonder why you even browse the suggestion forum, because after all they are "SUGGESTIONS" so how about you take your single voice and cram it up your ass

i am basing my post on successful rpgs that i have played, and the aspects that corrected issues as well as made it fun to play :/

I would have to disagree with global attributes, especially not the generic str, dex, int stats we've been seeing since the 80s.

At least 5? You can add pretty much every MMO on the market to your list. Any game you play, you can count on your character being measured by the same five boring numbers (ooh sometimes six if they split DEX and AGI, so imaginative!).

Now GW is the first game that tries to break away from that trend and the first thing you do is demand they jump on the bandwagon with everyone else, without any regard to the fact that it would require them to re-design the game engine from the ground up, and add essentially nothing to the gameplay.

Close Minded. I wish there was a forum just to talk about that. Because the people who always gripe about others being "close minded" are really the only close minded people alive. You say he's close minded to making global attributes, which have been in every RPG since time began because why, it's easy to do. I can do it and I'm a n00b programmer...

Chronos the Defiler, you're the close minded person because you don't think outside your cozy little box of str, dex, agi, int, def, or whatever you can think of, and except the world of Guild Wars, which is not every other MMO out there, it is not made to take the best aspects of old predecessors, and its not made to emulate the good ol' days like everything nowadays is(Games like Arcade Libraries on XBox discs, remakes of old movies, singers redoing old songs...etc...it's everywhere).
